Capitalisation
What is the Thematic INTERREG IVC Capitalisation?
With the approval of 204 projects, involving 2357 partners, certain regional development issues are already tackled by a significant number of projects. It is therefore possible to obtain additional results and lessons learnt for the benefit of local and regional authorities in Europe through the benchmarking and detailed content analysis of these projects. The Thematic INTERREG IVC Capitalisation initiative is an approach that focuses on collecting, analysing and disseminating the thematic knowledge gained from projects working on the same topic.
Which are the objectives?
- To better exploit the knowledge resulting from projects working on a similar topic for the benefit of local and regional authorities in Europe.
- To increase the visibility of the programme and its impact on the policy making process at regional, local, national and European levels.
Who are the target audiences?
- Decision makers: politicians and their professional staff involved in development of regional policy at local, regional, national or EU level.
- Programme bodies: members of the Monitoring Committee, MA, JTS, IPs
- End-users (i.e. the people directly affected by the projects) and other interested people living in the area around the projects’ activities.
- Multipliers: journalists, regional agencies, etc.
What are the expected results?
The systematic analysis of the projects by experienced external experts aims to deliver the following results:
- identified innovative approaches that could be relevant also to other regions in Europe
- policy recommendations for the national and the EU level
- possible synergies and mutual enrichment among the INTERREG IVC projects dealing with similar issues
- projects links to related initiatives in other EU programmes
- specific topic related recommendations to the projects
How is it implemented?
12 topics that are tackled by a sufficient number of projects are open to Capitalisation. The core actor is a specialised expert per topic that analyses the projects’ features and results and identifies their added value in their specific thematic field. The exercise is coordinated at the JTS level by the Capitalisation Officer with the support of the Project Officers and Information Points. The project partners contribute by providing all relevant information on thematic issues and participating in thematic workshops. The capitalisation initiative is followed by stakeholder groups per topic that gather interested parties (Member States, national & EU experts etc) who can contribute in the discussions.
26 thematic experts were contracted to carry out the Capitalisation exercise and their profiles are presented in the “Network of capitalisation experts” booklet.
